**West Ham** midfielder [Lucas Paqueta](https://www.claretandhugh.info/lucas-paqueta-bio/) has caused something of a stir following a cryptic pre-match message which seemed to suggest he was leaving the Hammers.
The Paq-Man wrote on his social media page: _“I am not from here, I will return home, he comes to get me, and with him I will go.”_ Beautiful and poignant stuff, although I don’t have a Scooby Doo what it means precisely – but it has the sound of a farewell poem.
The Brazilian midfielder followed up his prophetic, Cantona-esque musings by expertly scoring a penalty and kissing the West Ham crest as part of his celebration, completely confusing matters.
Perhaps Paqueta was just feeling creative, and the West Ham playmaker meant nothing by his post, which was translated from Portuguese. The part about returning home seems clear enough, but quite who is coming to get him is anyone’s guess.
Presumably, Paqueta wasn’t referring to the FA coming to get him. Perhaps he meant Kia Joorabchian would come and get him to facilitate a move to Corinthians? Who knows. But 90 minutes is a long time in football, and while the evening started with Paqueta packing his Speedos and booking a flight back to Rio, it ended with him kissing the Hammers badge and eating pie & mash.
