Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a thrilling [5-0 win over Southampton](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/dec/15/southampton-tottenham-premier-league-match-report) at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday night, which came as a big ease on Ange Postecoglou’s shoulders following all the mounting pressure on the Australian, who took a bold decision to play Djed Spence over a fatigued Pedro Porro in the right back role.
It was a wonderful five-star performance from the Lilywhites, with James Maddison giving the visitors the lead in the first minute with a precise assist from Djed Spence before Heung Min Son doubled the lead ten minutes later. Dejan Kulusevski joined the party in a couple of minutes time before Pape Matar Sarr scored the North Londoners fourth in the 25th minute. Maddison completed the half with yet another stroke of half time.

And while there were ample splendid performers, Djed Spence was a standout as he marked his first Premier League start of the season with an outstanding display (despite having to switch to the left back role after Destiny Udogie’s injury scare).
However, the 24-year-old’s night also ended on a worrying note on the injury end, with Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold reporting that the former Middlesbrough player was seen limping after the final whistle. The journalist went on to speculate that the problem might be owing to either a cramp or fatigue from his first extended time on the pitch in some time, but it does remain a concern for Postecoglou given how players have been dropping like flies of late.

Destiny Udogie was substituted in the first half at the weekend due to a speculated injury, as he joins a long list of defenders in Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the treatment room.
Hopefully that Spence limp isn’t anything serious.
