Newcastle 18y/o could feature v Brentford, Howe thinks he’s ‘immense potential’ - journalist

Newcastle United ended their four-game winless run by cruising past Leicester City 4-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The Magpies produced a rampant attacking display, with goals from Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and a brace from Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle will look to continue their momentum when they host Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Eddie Howe’s side haven’t been very convincing this campaign, but they looked to have regained their confidence after the emphatic success against Leicester.

Lewis Miley hasn’t played for the Tyneside club since featuring as a substitute against Chelsea on October 30.

However, per The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, the 18-year-old could return to the squad in Wednesday’s home match, given Sean Longstaff’s suspension.

Howe is a huge admirer of the youngster, as the English boss believes he has ‘immense potential’.

Miley is also likely to travel with the team to Ipswich Town at the weekend, with Joelinton banned for the Premier League clash.

The midfielder is one of the finest talents to emerge from the Magpies’ academy.

He made his competitive debut against Bournemouth in February 2023. Since then, the teenager has made 27 more appearances for his side, with a goal and four assists to his name.

Miley picked up a back injury last season before sustaining a foot problem during the summer.

Fitness issues mean he hasn’t played once in the English top-flight this campaign.

However, fans could see him in action soon, as he has fully recovered from his injury.
