Real Madrid's need for a centre-back is not unknown and fans are hoping that the club make an addition in that area of the pitch as soon as possible after Eder Militao suffered another long-term injury. And while it looks like Los Blancos are on the verge of signing a central defender, it is not the kind of high-profile name that the supporters would have wanted to see be brought in.
Instead, [Real Madrid](https://therealchamps.com/real-madrid-erling-haaland-decision-man-city-struggles) are ready to sign a highly-rated youngster. The move appears to be on the verge of completion as well.
As tweeted by [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1868635962584207508), Real Madrid are set to sign centre-back Lamini Fati for a €100k fee. The deal is almost done with Leganes. The personal terms are also agreed with the 18-year-old who’d join the Juvenil A team.
It is very much a signing for the youth team with a potential future at the senior level. But considering Real Madrid's record in that regard, one would doubt that pathway.
Of course, it is possible that Real Madrid could end up signing an experienced centre-back in January. They have stayed away from making mid-season signings in recent years but this time around, the situation seems to be a bit different.
They have plenty of key players out for the foreseeable future and the team is struggling for positive results. So, making a signing or two might lift the mood and will increase the options available to Carlo Ancelotti.
At the moment though, it looks like they are more likely to sign a full-back than a centre-back, having been linked with a long list of players in that area of the pitch. On the other hand, it is Aurelien Tchouameni who has been filling in the heart of defence lately.
