Diogo Jota made a successful return to the team against Fulham as he came on as a second-half substitute to score a fantastic goal for his side.

The Portuguese forward earned rave reviews for his cameo as he returned to the team after nearly two months out with a rub injury he sustained against Chelsea earlier this season.

Jota was expected to start against Southampton to get more game time under his belt, but it now appears as if his involvement in the game tomorrow hangs in the balance.

Speaking about the former Wolves forward, Slot said that he wasn’t ‘completely fit’ after the game against Fulham, adding that he’s a doubt for tomorrow having not trained yesterday.

“Diogo would have definitely been ideal to play but after the game, he wasn’t completely fit, so he didn’t train yesterday,” said Slot in his pre-match press conference.

“Let’s see if he can train today. I don’t expect him to start, hopefully he can make some minutes.”

Slot could hand minutes to youngsters tomorrow

With games set to come thick and fast across all competitions between now and the turn of the year, Slot is likely to rotate his starting XI for the cup tie against Southampton.

The likes of Wataru Endo, Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott – who haven’t had much game time this season – are all expected to start, while Federico Chiesa could also get some minutes under his belt having returned to the squad against Fulham.

Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni are in contention to get some game time, while Jayden Danns, James McConnell, James Norris, and Amara Nallo could also feature, having been left out of the U-21s squad to face Crystal Palace yesterday.
