Depending on who you choose to believe will determine whether you believe Chelsea are currently in a fight for the Premier League title.

Jamie Carragher says Conference League an advantage for Chelsea over Liverpool

Jamie Carragher was begging players at the start of the season to stop signing for Chelsea, however has now been made to eat his words following their start to the season so far.

The Blues will need to overturn a potential five-point deficit to league leaders Liverpool, however Carragher believes the fact the fact they are not needing to go full strength in Europe is a reason they are in the race.

He said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “I still look at them and don’t see a title-winning team in there, just because when I look at the goalkeeper and the two centre-backs. The season where Liverpool came really close under Brendan Rogers, they came from nowhere. No one expected it, but they didn’t have European football.

“I know Chelsea do, but they can put their second team out and still win that competition. That is something that definitely puts them right in the race.”

Chelsea’s Conference League record

Maresca decided to leave the likes of Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia out of the squad for the group stages of the Conference League, however this has had no impact on their performances and results.

The Blues sit top of the table with just the game against Shamrock Rovers to come, being the only side to boast a 100% record so far.

The competition has seen a number of fringe players given their chance to impress. While Christopher Nkunku has been firing home the goals this season, last time out it was the turn of Marc Guiu to impress.
