Barcelona have been warned that Lamine Yamal’s latest ankle injury is “not a typical sprain” and could be more serious than first feared.
The Catalans have confirmed [Yamal is out for “3 to 4 weeks”](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2024/12/16/24322338/bad-news-barcelona-offer-lamine-yamal-injury-update-ahead-of-crunch-atletico-madrid-clash) after suffering the injury in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Leganes.
Dr Ripoll of the Ripoll and De Prado Sport Clinic (a FIFA accredited medical center of excellence) has shared his thoughts on the problem.
> “It is not a typical sprain, it is a much more specific injury, a slight tear of the membrane that joins the tibia to the fibula, which is known as syndesmosis,” he told Cadena SER.
>
> “The prognosis is much more uncertain This is the second injury he has had in the same structure and in less than a month. This structure is much more delicate than the ankle.”
Barcelona have also been warned not to rush Yamal back but to take their time to ensure he recovers fully and does not go on to suffer any further setbacks.
> “He has played 80% of the matches and last year reached 91%. The medical services at Barça will do well to heal him completely and without any rush,” he added.
>
> “I would recommend a biological treatment for the tear, with some protein from her own blood, which is a very common treatment in Spain that helps heal an injury like this.”
Early estimates are suggesting Barca are hoping to have Yamal back in time for the [Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia in January](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2024/12/17/24322496/barcelona-hoping-to-have-lamine-yamal-back-at-100-per-cent-for-spanish-super-cup).
