Everton and Leicester City admirers of Championship ace

Everton and Leicester City are admirers of Watford attacking midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze along with Wolves, according a report by Football League World.

Watford could face a battle to keep hold of the Georgia international ahead of the upcoming January transfer window. He penned a five-year deal with the Championship side though back in September.

Chakvetadze, 25, has become a key player for the Hornets over recent times and has caught the eye under the guidance of Tom Cleverley. The Hertfordshire outfit won 2-1 at home to West Brom last time out and are now sat in 7th place in the table, outside the play-offs on goal difference behind Middlesbrough.

According to Football League World, Everton and Leicester City have been keeping tabs on his development. It remains to be seen at this stage whether either will make an approach for the player next month.

Watford brought in Chakvetadze on an initial loan deal back in 2023 and they will be praying that they can keep hold of him.

He has scored once in 58 appearances in all competitions for the Hornets to date.

Chakvetadze started his career with spells in his native country at Norchi Dinamoeli and Dinamo Tbilisi before joining Gent as a youngster.

He spent five years in Belgium and played 81 matches, chipping in with eight goals.

The Tbilisi-born man was loaned out to Hamburg and Slovan Bratislavac to boost his development before rocking up at Watford.

Chakvetadze was a bit of an unknown quantity when he moved to Vicarage Road but he has become one of their most prized assets now.

After penning his extension a few months ago, Cleverley said, as per the official club website: “He’s a fantastic example for our younger players on how focusing on what’s really important in your life – if you truly want to make it as a professional – matters.

“He’s quiet but so determined, leading by example with his professionalism and his passion for improving as a footballer and helping to bring success to our club. Let’s hope he can be a big part of our future and that success we all want.”

What now?

Time will tell to see whether Leicester City, Everton or Wolves lodge an official approach.

In the meantime, Watford will be keen to carry their momentum during the festive period.
