Swoop for Southampton player depends on new manager – Opinion will influence January exit

There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Trabzonspor are still showing interest in Southampton forward Paul Onuahcu.

The Nigeria international, who has also been linked with Besiktas in recent weeks, spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor.

[Kuzey Ekspres](https://www.kuzeyekspres.com.tr/haber/22829725/onuachu-icin-flas-gelisme-kulubu-resmen-acikladi#google_vignette) have reported on the latest developments regarding Trabzonspor’s pursuit for the 30-year-old and they say the Super Lig side are closely monitoring the situation at Southampton following the sacking of Russell Martin.

Onuahcu hardly figured under Martin this season leading to recent reports he could be heading back to Turkey in the January transfer window.

It’s claimed the Trabzon club could yet again make a move for the centre forward after failing to get a deal done with Southampton during the last summer window, but they’ll need to discover whether he will be in plans of the next Saints manager.

Trabzonspor should expect to face competition from Super Lig rivals Besiktas, who are keen to bring in a forward to take the load off Ciro Immobile.

The Nigerian scored 19 goals for the Turkish side last season and is contracted to Southampton until June 2026.
