'A thing of beauty': Ben Foster claims Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson did something 'really difficult' vs Brentford

Chelsea’s impressive season continued at the weekend by winning 2-1 at home to Brentford, which has cranked up the external noise about them being in a title race.

Chelsea are second in the Premier League table after the weekend’s victory over their local rivals. The Blues are now only two points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played a game less.

Jamie Carragher insists Chelsea are title contenders this season, but he doubts they’ll have enough to finish at the top.

Ben Foster amazed by Nicolas Jackson goal vs Brentford

Nicolas Jackson, 23, netted what turned out to be the winning goal against Brentford on Sunday.

The Chelsea striker, who’s now scored nine Premier League goals this season, tucked in a side-footed finish when 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Interestingly, former Premier League keeper Ben Foster thought Jackson’s goal was pure class.

Foster said on his YouTube channel: “Nicolas Jackson’s finish [against Brentford] was a thing of beauty. As a goalie, when he’s running through there, I’m betting most of my money he’s putting it down to my right. It’s the easier finish. You can come across it and get more pace.

“For him to be that calm and composed and not give anything away with his body language and slot it into that far corner, it’s a really difficult finish. The goalie didn’t even know what day it was. It was such a good finish.”

Even though Jackson’s finishing can sometimes be erratic, he’s emerging as one of the Premier League’s elite No.9s.

Chelsea’s Jackson is outperforming Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah in one statistic. Remarkably, Jackson has scored more non-penalty goals (23) since the start of last season than Salah (22).

With Christopher Nkunku patiently waiting in the wings, Jackson can’t afford to take his foot off the gas.

Nicolas Jackson on track to smash last season’s record

If Jackson continues at this rate, his second season in Chelsea colours is going to massively eclipse last year’s debut campaign with them.

Maresca said Jackson was “unbelievable” in Chelsea’s win over Brentford, which made it five consecutive top-flight victories.

The centre-forward is contributing with his fair share of goals. On top of that, his all-around game on and off the ball is so impressive when leading the line.
