Wolves fans are ready to welcome Vitor Pereira as the club’s new first-team manager.
His appointment will be made official very soon, with Pereira having now flown to England after talks with Wolves over the past 48 hours.
Wolves sacked Gary O’Neil on Sunday after a final 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town, but have moved fairly quickly since doing that.
The expectation is that Pereira will be in place by Wednesday, and he will be taking the team for the first time against Leicester City on Sunday.
It is undoubtedly a gamble by Wolves. Pereira has had 12 clubs in his managerial career and can be explosive. He won’t stand for nonsense, and one gets the feeling that it certainly won’t be dull with him in charge.
But Pereira clearly has some great traits too – and one remark Tim Vickery has made will potentially put fans at ease.

Tim Vickery is a South American football expert, and has been giving some of his thoughts to BBC Sport.
Pereira has spent time managing in Brazil, having had spells with Corinthians and more recently Flamengo.

Vickery talks about Pereira’s time at Corinthians, which he describes as a ‘difficult job’, just like the one he is about to walk into.
But he says: “He did a pretty good job at Corinthians – a massive club from Sao Paulo – but they were in financial problems.
“That was a difficult job, but he marshalled his resources pretty well there. He got them to fourth in the league, and they got through to the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores [the South American equivalent of the Champions League] and all the way to the final of the Brazilian Cup.
“He cut his cloth pretty well at Corinthians, and the system he used was a 4-1-4-1. He did a sound job and he was able to adapt to what he had. He got the best out of his players.”
Pereira could prove to be a savvy appointment
The appointment of Pereira is so fascinating.
He’s had a lot of clubs which is something that has worried quite a lot of people.
But he’s averaged a win rate of 53.89% over his managerial career and there’s definitely something to be said for that.
Vitor Pereira as a manager
Clubs – 12
Games managed – 642
Wins – 346
Draws – 155
Losses – 141
Win percentage – 53.89%
Trophies won – 8 (including 4 league titles)
The notion he was able to marshall resources well at Corinthians, and get the best out of the players he had there, is encouraging. Because he could now walk into a very similar environment at Wolves – although the expectation is that he’ll be backed in January.
Surely he would not be joining the club if he didn’t have some kind of assurances over recruitment next month – because the squad certainly needs strengthening.
Journalist Rory Smith adds in the article that Pereira has worked for ‘erratic’ clubs and arguably, that tag can be applied to Wolves at the moment – potentially making this a decent appointment, since he knows what that entails.
