Sven Botman is back for Newcastle United.
After nine months out injured, the Newcastle United defender was back on the pitch on Monday night as he played for the Magpies’ Under-21s.
It had been reported that Botman was scheduled to play for Newcastle’s Under-21s, and he was named in the starting XI to face Chelsea at Whitley Park. The 24-year-old played 60 minutes, nine months to the day after he sustained an ACL injury.
Botman looked solid on his Newcastle United return, as he edges closer towards playing for Eddie Howe’s first-team once again.

Following his return, Botman sent a message to fans, and now the Dutchman has spoken to the club’s official website about his comeback.
Immediately after playing an hour for the Under-21s, Botman was asked what his next aim is.
“I’ve been training for a while now,” he said.
“It’s the last phase of my rehab. I’m looking forward to that moment back inside St James’ Park with the first-team. That’s my goal now.”

When Sven Botman could play at St James’ Park for Newcastle
Next on the agenda for Botman is playing at St James’ Park for the Newcastle United first-team.
However, that might not happen until 2025. Howe was happy with Botman’s performance on Monday night, but will not rush his first-team return.
Eddie Howe recently said when Botman will return, with late December or early January the earliest he will be considered for first-team action.
Newcastle face Manchester United at Old Trafford on December 30th, before taking on Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 4th.
The Magpies’ first home game of 2025 is against Bromley in the third round of the FA Cup on January 12th. That feels like the perfect moment for Botman to make his St James’ Park return.
In the meantime, Howe will likely continue with Fabian Schar and Dan Burn at centre-back. They will feel the looming presence of Botman, who will be desperate to make up for lost time and reclaim his place in the Newcastle United starting XI.
