Leicester City will compete with West Ham United to sign 20-year-old Irish striker Evan Ferguson from fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Evan Ferguson is the subject of interest from Leicester City. The Foxes are scouring the market for a striker heading into the January transfer window. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion attacking prospect is also a target for West Ham United, with both Premier League clubs approaching his agents regarding a winter move.
Evan Ferguson and his journey so far
Evan Ferguson has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Bohemians a few years ago. While the Irishman was all the rage when he broke into the first-team squad at the Premier League club, his stock has fallen in the last 12 months, even though he remains one of the brightest young prospects in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old has managed only 368 minutes of action in 13 appearances in all competitions for Brighton & Hove Albion thus far this term, chipping in with one goal. With game time coming at a premium, Ferguson’s patience is wearing thin, with a departure in the January transfer window on the cards.
The Republic of Ireland international does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with several well-known Premier League clubs, including West Ham United, setting their sights on him. In addition, the highly-rated striker is a target for Leicester City heading into the January transfer window. Both top-flight outfits have contacted the youngster’s entourage regarding a winter move.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
West Ham United’s interest in Evan Ferguson is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a striker amid uncertainties surrounding the availability of Michail Antonio, who has been in the hospital since recently being in a scary accident. So, the Brighton prospect has emerged as a viable target for West Ham.
As for Leicester City, it is surprising that the Foxes want to sign a new striker in the January transfer window. Unless the former Premier League champions offload Patson Daka and Odsonne Edouard next month, Ferguson will struggle for game time, considering Jamie Vardy is the first-choice striker.
However, with Vardy in the twilight of his illustrious career, Leicester City can do with a long-term successor. So, Ferguson might be a viable target for the long run. With West Ham and Leicester City contacting the 20-year-old Irishman’s entourage, a move across the Premier League might be on the cards.
