Veteran Serie A referee Daniele Chiffi delivered a woeful performance in Monday’s encounter between Lazio and Inter Milan.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908, the 40-year-old made several questionable decisions during the match.
Chiffi’s poor handling of key moments often left Inter frustrated and their fans bewildered.
Indeed, he threw the game into disarray with a dubious yellow card to Hakan Calhanoglu for a soft foul.
However, Pedro committed a far more serious tackle on Nicolo Barella without being booked.
The worst was yet to come.
Daniele Chiffi Drops Ball in Lazio vs Inter Milan Serie A Clash
Chiffi failed to award a clear penalty to Inter toward the end of the first half.
But after receiving a call from the VAR room, he punished Samuel Gigot’s handball.
Hakan Calhanoglu was relentless from the spot to put Inter in front in the 41st minute.
Indeed, Calhanoglu’s goal opened the floodgate, with the Nerazzurri adding five to the tally in the remainder of the game.
Yet, the clash could’ve gone either way had it not been for Silvio Mazzoleni’s intervention.
For a referee of Chiffi’s reputation, making such mistakes was highly unexpected and disappointing.
His lack of consistency in crucial decisions raised eyebrows, to say the least.
