Tim Steidten is destined to be left a frustrated figure at West Ham ahead of the January transfer window opening next month.

Several of the German’s decisions during the summer transfer window have now been ridiculed as the Hammers continue to struggle on the pitch under Julen Lopetegui.

The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Carlos Soler, Crysencio Summerville and Max Kilman have been huge hits amongst the fanbase, but signing Niclas Fullkrug and Brazilian Luis Guilherme raised some eyebrows.

These players have not yet been able to pay off their eye-watering price tags this season, and while fans are begging for new additions to be made in January, those plans may need to take a back seat.

According to BBC News [15 December], Daniel Kretinsky, who owns 27 per cent of shares at the London Stadium, has had his takeover of Royal Mail cleared by the UK government.

The purchase is set to cost the Czech billionaire £3.6billion, and considering how little David Sullivan likes to spend on his club, it could be a very cheap January window in East London.

West Ham United to suffer transfer setback after Royal Mail update

The Hammers already spent quite a lot funding Lopetegui’s new squad after his summer arrival, much to the surprise and excitement of fans at the London Stadium.

However, those same supporters are not expecting Sullivan to open his wallet again anytime soon, especially as some summer additions still attempt to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Fullkrug, for example, scored his first goal for the club in the 3-1 defeat to Leicester City, only after missing three months with an injury sustained on international duty.

With Sullivan not likely to splash the cash, and Kretinsky caught up in matters with his purchase of Royal Mail, Lopetegui may only be able to buy new players once he gets rid of some dead weight in January.

In other West Ham news, a “shocking” ace is surely sweating over his Hammers future as a January replacement is eyed.
