Newcastle United are looking to reach the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday
The Magpies take on Brentford on Wednesday night in the League Cup quarter-final. Toon boss Eddie Howe will be going into the game with a chip on his shoulder following Newcastle’s defeat to Brentford in the Premier League.
Despite the poor result in the last meeting between the two sides, Eddie Howe’s side have the home advantage for this cup tie and can take a lot of confidence from Newcastle’s convincing win against Leicester at St James’ Park on Saturday.
A win for Newcastle would put them in their second League Cup semi-final in three seasons and potentially 180 minutes away from another visit to Wembley.

Eddie Howe discusses Newcastle United’s home advantage against Brentford
Howe faced the press on Tuesday previewing the important tie which was aired on Newcastle’s website. He was asked about the importance of playing at home in a game like this.
He said: “(The home draw) gave us a great feeling, we have such a powerful force at home with our supporters. We need to execute our plan well and continue where we left off against Leicester.”
Newcastle has already played two League Cup games at St James’ Park this season, beating AFC Wimbledon and Chelsea respectively.
The Magpies will be without Sean Longstaff due to suspension; Callum Wilson, Nick Pope, Jamaal Lascelles, and Emil Krafth will all miss out through injury.

Eddie Howe keen to continue St James’ Park momentum
Despite the defeat away at Brentford, Howe’s side are unbeaten in their last two home games.
Newcastle drew with Premier League leaders Liverpool before dispatching Leicester on Saturday. The Magpies have only lost two of their eight home games all season with wins coming against the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur along with a point against defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
On momentum, Howe said: “Those two games have been really good performances [Liverpool and Leicester], the problem for us was Brentford was sandwiched in-between it, and we didn’t like ourselves in that one.
“We back ourselves from an attacking sense with the players we have and it was good to see us score the goals we did at the weekend. Our only focus is on Brentford and winning this match.”
