Arsenal set sights on Mohammed Kudus as West Ham United ready to sanction sale

West Ham United are open to the idea of selling Mohammed Kudus in the January transfer window amid interest from Arsenal, Alex Crook reports.

According to the talkSPORT transfer notebook [17 December], the Hammers would not turn down a “big-money” offer for the forward, with Arsenal weighing up a move ahead of the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old is a hot commodity heading into the New Year, and he is eager to play at a higher level [Sacha Tavolieri], alerting the interest of Newcastle United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

However, Mikel Arteta will need to sell to fund a move for the forward as the Hammers will demand a fee close to his £85million release clause, which will become active at the end of the season.

Mohammed Kudus could leave West Ham United in January

Kudus is one of several West Ham players who has seen his progress this season halted by the underwhelming tenure of Julen Lopetegui, and he may well push for an exit at the first available opportunity.

The Ghanaian international enjoyed a stellar maiden campaign in the Premier League last term, contributing 14 goal contributions under David Moyes, but his influence has diminished in his second year.

His performances for club and country have fallen off a cliff, and while the quality remains, his confidence is completely shot.

Therefore, should Kudus continue to trod along in East London for the entirety of the campaign, West Ham can kiss goodbye to any hope of interested parties activating his £85m release clause in the summer.

The winter transfer window is notoriously difficult for top-quality talent to be prized from their respective clubs, but a war chest garnered from Kudus’ sale would allow Tim Steidten to throw eye-watering figures at possible replacements.

A sale to a Premier League rival may not be the most desirable outcome but remains the only realistic possibility amid the interest – January could be the Hammers’ last chance to demand a sizeable fee for the forward.

In other West Ham news, the Irons’ January transfer plans have been foiled as a £3.6bn update emerges.
