Louis Saha admits it is 'painful' to witness the demise of troubled Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Rashford has cut a miserable figure this season following another slump in form. The 27-year-old has scored just seven goals in 24 appearances in all competitions.

And his United career hit an all-time low on Sunday, when new boss Ruben Amorim axed him from his squad altogether for the Manchester derby at the Etihad. Rashford trained away from the first team on the morning of the game, before going home to watch United's 2-1 win over Manchester City on television.

Former United favourite Saha reckons Rashford is playing with "no joy and no smile” - and that his on-going problems at Old Trafford are "sad to see.” Speaking to Betfred, Saha said: "Marcus is a big star at Manchester United and to see him missing games due to poor form or a lack of focus is sad to see.

"We're watching a talented player go into games with no joy, no smile and the connection with the fans gets lost because of that.

"I still have faith that Marcus can recapture his best form, as long as he can start scoring goals and play with the same level of commitment that some of the other players at the club are showing.

"He needs to do something about his performances, his approach and needs to find a way to reconnect with the people around the club again. Whatever he’s doing off the pitch, which is affecting his performances, needs to stop.”

"The boy loves United, he wants to remain there, all his family are Manchester United fans, so ultimately I think this is a very painful outcome. It’s hard to see that.”
