Laporta reveals the measures Barcelona are taking to secure first-team duo’s registration

As January nears, the alarm bells in Catalonia only ring louder for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor near the end of their provisional registration with La Liga.

Both players missed the opening games of the season owing to the club’s financial struggles but were eventually squeezed onboard owing to Andreas Christensen’s unfortunate injury.

With the Dane returning in January and their registration running out in the same month, however, Barcelona have been forced to explore various options to generate sufficient space on the wage bill.

Laporta’s update

Speaking at a recent event, Barcelona president Joan Laporta commented on the registration status of the duo and how far along the club have progressed on that front.

“We are working on the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor and it has come out that we have filed some petitions, but without acrimony. We want to keep all avenues open,” he began, revealing the board’s efforts.

The president then outlined how they were hoping the space freed by Ter Stegen’s long-term injury would be sufficient to register the duo along with the renewed Nike contract.

“We are appealing that with the margin of Ter Stegen’s salary, we can fit Olmo and Pau. We are working to bring in money to fit these players. The contract with Nike is also fundamental.”

Speaking specifically on the contract with Nike, Laporta called it the ‘best in the world’, and rightfully so given how the new terms take Barcelona right to the top in terms of sponsorships.

“La Liga asked us to go through the Assembly. It is the best contract in the world. We have the Assembly on the 21st and we will work to get it approved, to have one more tool to register them.”

“We are also looking for other ways to comply with the ‘fair play’ rules,” he concluded.

The two precautionary petitions to obtain the registration of Olmo and Victor will be presented this coming Monday in the Commercial Court.

It is a measure to have all the options on the table so that the two players can play without setbacks in the second part of the season.
