Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes the Reds should enter the battle for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with bids for the Swedish international but, speaking to Casino Apps, Pennant said he would also be an excellent addition to Arne Slot’s squad:
“I think Liverpool should be looking at signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle in January. He scores every time he plays against Liverpool since he joined! Not only that, but he’s also a proven goalscorer and is a real handful for defenders.”

“His movement is great, he’s quick and can bring in other players as well. He has all the attributes of fantastic number nine. That goal against Liverpool recently was all his creation, it was him getting the ball out of his feet and striking it into the back of the net and it’s not the first time we’ve seen that.”
Liverpool were reportedly offered Isak before
Interestingly enough, it was reported back in the summer that the Reds were approached by Newcastle about signing Isak. At the time, the Magpies needed to balance the books to stop them breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
They are no longer in a position where they need to offload the striker but talks over a new contract have stalled, which may suggest that a deal could be done in January or at the end of the season.
Even so, Isak could still cost an arm and a leg with reports suggesting a fee of around £115m may be needed to tempt Newcastle into selling.
Nunez would need to be sacrificed
One of the reasons why a move to Anfield may not happen next month is because Liverpool would probably have to find a buyer for Darwin Nunez first.
It is looking increasingly likely that the Uruguayan will be sold, especially if his form doesn’t improve, but you would still think a transfer is more realistic in the summer than in the winter.
