Alan Shearer picked out a star trio from Newcastle United’s emphatic 4-0 win over Leicester City.
Newcastle have struggled to turn up against weaker opposition this season with our best performances coming against Big Six sides.
However, Saturday’s 4-0 win against Leicester at St James’ Park ranks right up there in terms of this season’s best displays.
Anthony Gordon was sublime against Leicester while Newcastle fans raved about Lewis Hall following another outstanding performance.
Jacob Murphy stole the headlines with two goals, while Alexander Isak also added to his goal tally.

Alan Shearer names Newcastle trio in Team of the Week
Shearer slammed Newcastle’s defeat to Brentford last week, but the Magpies legend was much more pleased with Saturday’s display.
Newcastle players were warned by Alan Shearer that they cannot only turn up against bigger teams and must perform each and every week. It seems the players responded superbly to that criticism.

With Matchweek 16 of the Premier League now finished, Shearer has named his Premier League Team of the Week and there was space for three Newcastle stars.
Lewis Hall was “a constant threat down the left side” according to Shearer and made the cut alongside Jacob Murphy.
Isak also starred in the striker spot with Shearer adding: “Caused nightmares for yet another defence with his movement, pace and skill. He got his goal and then laid one on for Murphy too.”
Alan Shearer surprisingly snubs Sandro Tonali
While three Newcastle stars did make Shearer’s team, it is a surprise that Sandro Tonali has been left out.
Tonali has thrived in a No.6 position for Newcastle in the last few weeks. The new role seems to suit the Italian perfectly.
Callum Wilson raved about Tonali’s performance against Leicester, with the £55m signing hardly putting a foot wrong in the heart of midfield.

Howe praised Tonali’s “intelligent” display, saying: “He obviously plays the number six position very differently to Bruno, but is equally as effective.
“He covered the ground really well. His athletic performance was very good and he’s just very intelligent with the ball.”
