"Charity Shield also twice, no? So it’s three" - Mikel Arteta corrects reporter who said Arsenal have won only one trophy under him

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recently corrected a reporter who claimed that the club has secured only one trophy during his time in charge. The Spanish tactician highlighted that he has steered the Gunners to victories in two Community Shields and the FA Cup, totaling three trophies under his leadership.

In the pre-match press conference ahead of his side's Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace on Wednesday, a reporter pointed out that the Gunners have won only one trophy in Arteta's five years at the club. He asked if being in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup is another opportunity to win silverware.

Arteta responded (via Fabrizio Romano on X):

"Well the Charity Shield also twice, no? So it’s three."

Mikel Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager in 2019. He led the club to win the 2019-20 FA Cup in his first season in charge, defeating Chelsea 2-1 in the final at Wembley. In doing so, he became the first to win the prestigious trophy as both captain and coach of the club.

Since then, he has failed to lead the club to another major title, albeit winning the Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield) in 2020 and 2023. However, under his leadership, the North London club has transformed into title challengers. They finished as runners-up in the league behind Manchester City in the last two seasons.

Arsenal have also been named one of this season's title favorites by fans and pundits alike. The Gunners are currently third in the standings with 30 points after 16 matches, six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played a game less.

They have also performed well in the UEFA Champions League and are third in the league phase standings with 13 points. Arteta's men will look to seal a Carabao Cup semi-final ticket when they welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates on Wednesday.

Jamie Carragher highlights why Arsenal and Liverpool could win the Premier League ahead of Chelsea

Former Premier League defender Jamie Carragher has given his opinion on why Arsenal and Liverpool could win the league ahead of Chelsea. The Blues' recent performance has seen them climb into second position on the log, raising talks of them being in the title race.

However, Carragher believes that Enzo Maresca's side will not win the title due to their weak defensive department. He claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool have a better defensive setup, which makes them stronger contenders.

"I don't personally think Chelsea will win the league this season. At centre-back, at goalkeeper, Arsenal and Liverpool are stronger in that area and I think you need top players in that area if you're going to win a league title. I might be proven wrong," he said while speaking on Sky Sports.

The Gunners are four points behind the Blues and six points behind Arne Slot's side on the league table.
