Newcastle United are facing heavy interest in this key St James’ Park figure.

A lot of speculation is swirling around the upcoming January transfer window and who Newcastle United might bring in to bolster their squad. The Magpies have been tipped to sign some reinforcements to hopefully help improve on their 12th place position in the Premier League as things stand.

Eddie Howe recently gave some insight into how his side might approach the winter window, suggesting it will be difficult to sign some temporary options.

“The loan market is an easy one to chuck out there and go, 'Let's look at loans’, but the reality of those loans is very difficult for the reasons that you have said there, really,” he told reporters, addressing previous comments he’d made about Newcastle ‘not having many friends’ to do business like that with.

“Who is going to want to help us? Not many football clubs. There were probably a lot more loan options that you could do in previous years before the rules changes. Now, I think it probably becomes more difficult.”

While reports continue to circulate over who could be coming in to St James’ Park, we must also look at who could be on the move out of the door, too. It’s no secret that the likes of Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak remain big targets for rival clubs, but what is the likelihood of them leaving in 2025?

Former Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant has suggested Isak would be an ideal signing for his old side and has urged them to consider a move for him as early as January. The Reds have let a significant lead at the top of the Premier League table trickle through their fingers with their latest performances, including the 3-3 draw against Newcastle. Pennant has taken aim at record signing Darwin Núñez and stressed the need for the Reds to offload him and invest the cash elsewhere.

“I think Liverpool should be looking at signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle in January. He scores every time he plays against Liverpool since he’s joined. Not only that, but he’s also a proven goalscorer and is a real handful for defenders,” Pennant said.

“His movement is great, he’s quick and can bring in other players as well. He has all the attributes of a fantastic number nine. That goal against Liverpool recently was all his creation, it was him getting the ball out of his feet and striking it into the back of the net and it’s not the first time we’ve seen that.”

Indeed, Isak is currently on eight goals and four assists across all competitions so far this season as he races to match or better last campaign’s tally of 25 goals. The Sweden international is under contract until 2028 and TEAMtalk recently reported that Newcastle would demand a starting ‘monster offer’ bid of at least £115 million in order to even entertain the idea of losing him.

Several clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, have been eyeing a move for Isak ahead of 2025 and now Liverpool have been encouraged to try their hand at bringing him to Anfield. The Magpies will have a tough time fighting off the interest being shown in Isak over the coming months but with plenty of time left on his contract, they are in the driving seat regarding negotiations.
