'It's time': Pundit who has mocked Nuno Espirito Santo now makes apology to Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are starting to get more respect as a proper Premier League club.

That doesn’t come as much of a surprise with the Reds currently dreaming big in fourth place in the Premier League table.

Ahead of the campaign, the Reds were ridiculed as a club that would struggle once again.

Gary Lineker has changed his mind on Forest already this season having made the club his pick for relegation ahead of the season.

Elsewhere, Robbie Earle made a similar Forest call and he’s now been praising the Reds in recent weeks after an upturn in fortunes.

Those two pundits won’t be on their own either but in fairness to Nuno Espirito Santo, he’s changed the football club for the better and nobody is laughing at Forest any longer.

Naturally, the season is still relatively young in terms of handing out honours and European places, with Forest keen to keep progressing over a busy Christmas period.

Gabriele Marcotti forced to eat humble pie after Forest start

This might be the most satisfying U-turn yet.

Jamie Redknapp hailed Espirito Santo recently and claimed nobody was making fun of him after his failed spell with Tottenham.

Now, another pundit who did exactly that has been forced to apologise to the Forest head coach for some things he said previously.

Marcotti told ESPN FC: “We’ve made fun of him in the past but I think it’s time to praise the loveable and cuddly Nuno Espirito Santo – and the man who makes it all happen, Evangelos Marinakis.”

“I expected Forest to go away and they didn’t. They’re still here.”

Espirito Santo won’t bothered about pundit claims

If Marcotti wants to claim that he’s mocked Espirito Santo then so be it, the Forest head coach is quietly going about his business and one job doesn’t define a manager.

Espirito Santo has done some brilliant things in his managerial career and he’s never been driven by proving people in the media wrong.

Speak to the Forest incumbent and it’s always about the players and his work simply takes place on the training ground when it comes to preparing them.

Evangelos Marinakis considered sacking Espirito Santo twice last season and he’s now been rewarded for choosing not to take that stance.

Marcotti has some kind of axe to grind with Espirito Santo and his face might be a picture if Forest can keep defying the odds and secure a European berth next season.
