Dan Friedkin should hold off before approving a hefty Everton bid to sign Watford ace Giorgi Chakvetadze due to PSR concerns.
With the Premier League reportedly having approved the takeover of The Friedkin Group on Merseyside in a major breakthrough, the American consortium is soon set to complete the acquisition of power from Farhad Moshiri.
Excited Toffees fans could be eyeing some lucrative signings to get the ball rolling, and a return to the European heights should eventually be the ambition, but recent history has not proven kind to the club in terms of financial discipline.
According to Football League World [17 December], Sean Dyche’s men are among several Premier League clubs monitoring Chakvetadze, 25, who starred for Georgia at Euro 2024 and has been a regular in the Championship for Watford.
While the attacking midfielder, who also operates out wide, can add further dynamism to a so-far blunt attacking force this season, the bigger picture should really be assessed in January.

Everton and Friedkin need to remain careful for now
Everton have to have stability at the forefront of their minds to ensure the handover of control at Goodison Park is as seamless as possible.
The same goes for Dyche’s position as manager – it should not be one considered in the short term, and rather be left for reassessment at the end of the campaign with Premier League football secured for the dawn of the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium.
Friedkin’s ambitions for the Toffees and the timeline of such can then be properly established, and this can then broaden into a transfer policy and key decisions throughout the existing squad.
The concern is, of course, that if Everton did want Chakvetadze that badly then next summer could come too late with the FLW report suggesting Leicester City and Wolves are also keen.

A price tag of around £20million could however deter the interested parties for PSR reasons, with Everton still haunted by the accumulative eight-point deduction they suffered last campaign – fortunately not enough to dump the club out of the top flight.
Chakvetadze joined Watford, initially on loan, from Belgian side Gent – a deal which was made permanent on 1 February of this year. He remains under contract at Vicarage Road until 2029, keeping the Hornets in a healthy position regarding his services.
In other Everton news, an eye-opening move to the Champions League could be on the cards for a Toffees striker.
