Bellingham: “I can’t promise results, but I can promise titles”

Ahead of the Intercontinental Cup, [Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com) midfielder Jude Bellingham spoke to the press about the game in Doha, explaining that “I can’t promise results, but I can promise titles. That we will give our best. Pachuca is a solid opponent and it will be a challenge. It will be a privilege to represent all the Madridistas in Qatar. It doesn’t matter if it’s La Liga, [Champions League](https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league) or another competition, the good thing is that the fans can enjoy their Real Madrid.”

### **Bellingham on the occasion**

“It’s a pleasure to play another final and we face it as a very important match, the opportunity to continue adding to this club’s trophy cabinet. It’s an honour and we hope to win.”

### **Bellingham on whether he is a leader**

“There are a lot of leaders in the dressing room... and I’ve just been chosen today to speak, that’s all. There are many leaders, captains and banners in there. The important thing is that we all respect and trust each other. Of course, I have certain leadership skills, but like many others.”

### **Bellingham on his scoring streak**

“On the first one, I’m very happy, attacking the area and receiving in dangerous situations. Playing like that... I love it. And I hope I can continue to do so. On the second: we didn’t start well, obviously, without reaching the required level. We took a step back, another step forward... but this is very long. We are a new group, we have suffered a lot of injuries and, in spite of everything, we are calm. I’m sure it will be a good season, that we will end up playing good football. Let’s prove it from tomorrow.”

### **Bellingham on handling pressure**

“For me it is a privilege. To be able to play for Real Madrid is the greatest thing in the world. To expect this not to be accompanied by pressure would be absurd. I am a soccer fan and I understand how things work: if you don’t play well, there is criticism and you have to accept it. As a team we analyze things and work quietly. Outside noise is to be expected. Normal.”

### **Bellingham on why English clubs don’t value the Intercontinental Cup**

“I don’t know, because I’ve never played for any Premier League club, only Birmingham City. But maybe it’s the mentality of Real Madrid, who face every title with the mentality of winning. And that’s what we’re going for.”

### **Bellingham on his shoulder**

“Fine, fine! I’m still in a sling, which is a bit uncomfortable, but the general feeling is pretty good.”

### **Bellingham on whether his celebration is opening his arms or giving a hug**

“I don’t care. As long as I score, great. It’s one of those moments I’ve been doing since I was a kid, my way. But if I get hugs, that’s fine too.”

### **Bellingham on Vinícius Júnior winning The Best**

“I don’t know if it’s official. But if he has won it, I totally agree. It’s a pleasure to play with him, he helps the team a lot... and to win titles. If he wins it, it would be very deserved. And I would be very happy for him.”

### **Bellingham on it being two years since the World Cup**

“I don’t think I would change much about my decisions, I would tell him to keep being myself, that’s all. I don’t regret anything. And I try not to look back too much, but forward. I’m happy with how things have turned out.”

### **Bellingham on 27 injuries this season**

“The number of games. The staff is looking for solutions to see what we need, trying to manage this... and doing it very well. But the load of minutes accumulates, causes fatigue and that takes its toll. There comes a point that affects performance, especially when you compete against strong opponents and you need speed. But that’s the way it is. We have to play a lot of games and we will try to do our best. In the summer you can rest a lot, but now we have matches every three days...”

### **Bellingham on what he knows about Pachuca**

“Ancelotti told us several things in the meeting we just had. They play very well, with a lot of intensity and tomorrow they will be very motivated. They deserve to be here and we owe them all the respect in the world.”

### **Bellingham his preferred position**

“Wherever Carlo Ancelotti puts me, that’s the answer I can give you right now.”
