Rangers star wanted by 9-time English champions - report

Everton are showing a strong interest in Rangers forward Hamza Igamane ahead of the January transfer window, TBR Football reports.

According to the news outlet’s website [17 December], Everton scouts were in attendance at Ibrox for the Gers’ 1-1 draw against Tottenham last week and were left “very impressed” with Igamane’s display in the Europa League.

The 22-year-old has emerged as the main option to lead the line for Philippe Clement, but the Belgian could now lose his star forward to nine-time English champions Everton only five months after his acquisition from FAR Rabat.

Rangers could lose Hamza Igamane to Everton

Igamane has well and truly announced himself at Ibrox when contributing two goals and an assist in the 4-1 win against Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

He has scored five goals since displacing Cyriel Dessers in the first-team fold at Rangers and has now alerted the interest of the Premier League.

West Ham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham and Newcastle United have also been keeping tabs on the Moroccan international’s development in Scotland, but Everton are the most likely to test the waters in January.

Clement now finds himself with a monumental decision to make at Ibrox – on the one hand, he has found his long-term replacement to Dessers, but a Premier League bidding war for Igamane could drive up a transfer fee too much for the Light Blues to turn down.

While his “sensational” performances in Europe were unlikely to fly under the radar, not many at Ibrox would have predicted the forward to potentially be packing his bags in Glasgow so soon after his arrival.

The decision Rangers make on Igamane will undoubtedly determine the course for the remainder of the season, should an offer indeed be tabled by Everton or anyone else.

A big-money fee could allow Clement to fund a mid-season rebuild to salvage the club’s hopes for a successful campaign, but losing a star talent so soon after arriving just seems counter-productive.
