Ruben Amorim has been urged to make a bold move for Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice to strengthen Manchester United’s midfield as part of an ambitious rebuild.
Rice has been a central figure in Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge this season, missing just two of their 16 league games. Across all competitions, the 25-year-old has made 20 appearances, scoring one goal and providing four assists. The England international joined Arsenal last summer for a club-record fee of £105 million and is under contract until 2028, with the option for a further year.
Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Rice would be the ideal “statement signing” to kickstart the Amorim era at Old Trafford, urging United to make an audacious move for the Arsenal star.

“I said a couple of years ago, Manchester United should have got Declan Rice,” Sheringham told Genting Casino. “If they went out and bought Declan Rice off Arsenal, that’d make me laugh because that’d obviously make Arsenal weaker and make United even stronger.

“He’s a proper player that leads by example. That’s the type of player you need in your football club. When you’re making a statement about a new manager coming in and buying new players, that is the type of player you buy. Declan Rice all day.”

Manchester United were heavily linked with Rice last summer, but the midfielder opted to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal instead. Rice later revealed his decision was influenced by Arteta’s vision for the team. Instead, United signed Mason Mount from Chelsea, but the 24-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign.
Former United manager Erik ten Hag acknowledged Rice’s quality while defending Mount’s signing. “He (Rice) is a very good player, and he would absolutely have fitted in here,” Ten Hag said. “But it’s not that I’m not happy with Mason. Mason is also a robust player who showed his consistency over four seasons. It’s just bad luck what’s happened with injuries.”
