Who is the favourite to win the EFL Cup ahead of quarter-finals?

EFL Carabao Cup Trophy

Eight teams are still challenging for the Carabao Cup

The first major trophy is up for grabs in just two months time we will find out who will be the Carabao Cup winners for the 2024/25 season. The quarter-finals is close

For the remaining "big clubs" it will be another trophy but for those outside of the running of a top six finish in the Premier League, it is an opportunity to secure a spot in Europe with a place in the Europa Conference League for next season.

Title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal remain in the fight with both managers keen to add some silverware at their respective employers. Mikel Arteta, who has been second fiddle to his former mentor Pep Guardiola in recent seasons, will be looking to add to the FA Cup he lifted five years ago while Arne Slot, who has been impressive since taking over from Jurgen Klopp, will be looking to bring home his first trophy at Anfield.

Meanwhile, there is an outside hope that we could see a winner playing Championship football next season with Southampton

Who is the favourite to win the League Cup?

At the time of writing this, the majority of the bookies have priced Arsenal as the favourites to secure only their second trophy under Mikel Arteta at 5/2 with Sky Bet, William Hill and CopyBet. They have leapfrogged Liverpool to secure the first trophy available this season but they both need to get through the quarter-finals and semi-finals to have a chance to get a hand on the trophy

Arsenal League Cup Odds

Let us face it, Mikel Arteta has a great chance to secure another trophy having been without one in five years since lifting the FA Cup. Okay, two years if we are counting the Community Shield but let's face it, it is not a major trophy. The Gunners have not won the League Cup since the 1992/93 season meaning Arteta could get one over the likes of Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery who have never lifted the trophy.

The bookies back them as the favourites at 5/2 best priced with Sky Bet, CopyBet and Unibet while Ladbrokes is offering odds of 9/4 to lift the trophy in February.

Liverpool League Cup Odds

Arne Slot's time at Liverpool has been an enjoyable one so far with the club in a great position in the Premier League, leading the Champions League group stage and in the quarter-finals in the EFL Cup. It is honestly quite surprising to see the Reds priced as second favourites considering the impressive form they have shown up until this point and many will back the Premier League leaders right now.

In fact, the Reds are heavily backed with 20.78% (compared to 13.6% for Arsenal) of the bets placed in the outright market backing Slot to secure his first trophy at the first time of asking. They are currently priced at 11/4 best price with Sky Bet, William Hill and CopyBet whereas they are 5/2 with Ladbrokes right now too

Tottenham League Cup Odds

Another side that are in the equation - and have the lion's share of bettors backing them, is Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs, trophyless since winning this very competition since 2008 under the guidance of Harry Redknapp will be keen to secure a spot in the semi-finals and potentially a trip to Wembley in February under Ange Postecoglou.

With the side at 5/1 with the likes of CopyBet, Sky Bet, Ladbrokes and Unibet they have an outside shot of not only winning this contest but ending their duck as they look to end this trophyless drought for good. It is a tough task but as Postecoglou has pointed out, he always wins a trophy in his second season any all the clubs he has managed so far in his career.

Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham are 5/1 to win the EFL Cup and end their 17-year wait for a trophy
