The former Spurs midfielder will begin training with Fabregas’ Como side in January.
Fabregas has been the head coach at Como since November 2023, when he joined as an interim coach after a spell playing for the Italian team at the end of his career.
The Spaniard took over on a permanent basis and is now offering Alli the chance to revive his career by training with the team. He could join on a permanent basis should he impress.
Speaking to ESPN, Fabregas was asked about the possibility of signing Alli on a permanent deal, he said: “He could train with us after Christmas to find his form.”
The midfielder came through the ranks at MK Dons before getting poached by Tottenham in 2015. He became one of the most exciting midfielders in the league, making 181 Premier League appearances, with 51 goals during his seven years at Spurs. His resume also includes 37 caps for England, and two PFA Young Player of the Year awards in back-to-back seasons (2016/2017).
However, Alli has struggled since leaving Spurs, revealing that he spent six months in rehabilitation in order to deal with the aftereffects of childhood traumas. The possible move to Como came about after the 28-year-old was spotted in the stands during the Serie A club’s last game, a 2-0 win against Roma.
Dele Alli in the ‘best place’ after revealing interview
The midfielder revealed a lot of personal struggles both with addiction and mental health during an interview with the Overlap in 2023. However, the former England international had revealed that he was in the ‘best place’ he’d been in for some time after taking the chance to recover.
He said: “Yeah, I think [I’m ok], that’s a question I’ve definitely been asked a lot – but I think this is probably the first time in a long time that I can say ‘yeah’ and like mean it.
“I think mentally I’m probably in the best place I’ve ever been, and I feel good. Obviously injured at the minute, but I’ve got that passion back for football.”
The chance to get back into football via Como might be exactly what the 28-year-old needs in order to kickstart a career that at one point saw him among the best midfielders in the Premier League.
