Liverpool are bidding to reach the Carabao Cup semi-final for the third time in four years when they make the trip down to Southampton on Wednesday. Arne Slot's side have been impressive in this cup competition so far this season, having swept past West Ham and Brighton to get to this stage.
Although Southampton are the lowest ranked team the Reds would have faced in the Carabao Cup, it does feel as though the trip to St Mary's has a different feel to it. This is because Saints parted company with manager Russell Martin on Sunday following their dismal 5-0 home defeat to Tottenham.
Simon Rusk is set to take charge of the game against Liverpool and there is uncertainty over whether the 42-year-old will stick to Southampton's traditional methods or switch it up. It means the Reds are going into a little bit of the unknown, but if Slot's men are at their best, they will feel confident of progressing.

Although the focus has been on the trip to Southampton, there has been some speculation over some transfers that the Reds could complete with the January window almost upon us. With that in mind, Liverpool Echo take a look at the rumours circulating across the last 24 hours...
'Keen on Greek duo'
Liverpool are keen on signing highly-rated Greek duo Charalampos Kostoulas and Christos Mouzakitis ahead of the January transfer window, according to TBR. Kostoulas and Mouzakitis have both impressed for Olympiacos, who are sweating over losing two of their most promising players.
Kostoulas, 17, has enjoyed a fine debut season with the Olympiacos senior set-up, having scored three times and grabbing one assist in 18 appearances this season. The young forward found the net as a second-half substitute during a 1-1 draw with Kallithea in the Greek Super League on Monday.
Mouzakitis, 17, is another talented teenager and he has been offered the chance to impress in the Olympiacos first-team this season. The central midfielder has played 14 times across all competitions this season and has started in five of their first six Europa League matches in the new format.
Frimpong stance
Liverpool have decided not to pursue their long-standing interest in Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to Sky Sports Germany. The 24-year-old has been impressive for the Bundesliga side over the last couple of years and helped them win the German top-flight last season.
The Netherlands international, who has scored twice and added eight assists in 23 matches this season, could leave Leverkusen next summer. However, Frimpong is not a 'concrete transfer target' for Liverpool as Arne Slot prefers a traditional right-back in a back four, and Frimpong's role does not currently fit into their system.
