Welcome to Wednesday’s run-through of some of the juiciest Premier League transfer rumours that we’ve caught doing the media rounds over the past 24 hours – and we’re going to kick things off with a report which suggests that one of Chelsea’s players may have more suitors than we expected.
Caught Offside have offered us a new update on the situation with Carney Chukwuemeka, who has been routinely linked with a move to AC Milan amid concerns over his playing time. Enzo Maresca seems to share those concerns and wants to send him away on loan, and it seems as though Milan might not be the only team ready to make a move.
West Ham United are among the sides “showing interest”, apparently, and although no concrete offer has yet been made, there is also “a feeling” that Chelsea could be persuaded to sell the 21-year-old midfielder if the money was right – apparently the asking price could be as low as €25m (£20.7m).
Napoli, Atlético Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt are also namechecked as potential destinations, as are Crystal Palace, although the report only says that they “could be one to watch” without offering any further information.
The 3AM Verdict: The big debate is whether to sell Chukwuemeka or loan him, and you can look at the list of prospective bidders and make some solid guesses as to which clubs want which type of deal. €25m is the kind of money West Ham and Palace may not be willing to gamble on a developmental prospect but AC Milan or Atléti may see things differently.
City star ‘wants out’
This next story definitely comes under the definition of a ‘bombshell’ – according to a journalist from Spanish show El Chiringuito (as reported by Sport Witness), Barcelona have “made the decision” to “activate” their interest in Erling Haaland and to sign him from Manchester City this summer. The same reporter even claims that the player himself has agreed…
Apparently there is a “good relationship” between the representatives of Haaland, who has three years left on his current contract at the Etihad, and Joan Laporta and his top brass at Barcelona, and they’ve had an ongoing communication for some time now, with Haaland apparently having decided to leave next summer based in part on City’s desperate recent form. No word on what kind of finances would be involved, or on whether his club would be willing to let him leave…
The 3AM Verdict: Even if the journalist is right and Haaland does want to go to Barcelona, there are some pretty titanic stumbling blocks here, starting with the fact that City have very little real incentive to let him leave, and ending with the fact that Barcelona have virtually no money and are currently desperately trying to sell players in January so that they can register the rest of the ones they already have. We can’t see this happening in a million years, but maybe, just maybe, it tells us something about how Haaland sees his own future.

Liverpool & Brighton target on the move
Finally, some news from Italy – cash-strapped Genoa need to raise some funds, and according to TuttomercatoWeb, that means that they could sell one of their prized assets, Morten Frendrup, who was on the summer shortlists of at least three Premier League sides.
Liverpool, Brighton and Brentford were all interested in the 23-year-old Danish midfielder, who can also play as a full-back, but Genoa were able to sell some other stars and kept hold of him – now, they have to go back to the market to make some money, and Frendrup could be available for as little as €15m (£12.4m). Whether those Premier League clubs are still keen isn’t clear, but it looks like AC Milan are.
The 3AM Verdict: Frendrup is a rock solid defensive midfielder who lets little get past him, but not as technically gifted as the type of players that Liverpool or Brighton usually target. Brentford, however, do seem like they’d appreciate his rugged approach to the game, and his positional versatility – they’d have a tough time rivalling Milan, mind you.
