Report: Newcastle United now want to sign £31m Manchester United player in January

Fans of Newcastle United, Manchester United and Everton are hoping that their clubs will be active in the January transfer window.

The Magpies are currently 12th in the Premier League table after 16 games. Everton are four places below them, having won just three of their first 15.

Both clubs could do with some help in the January transfer window, as could Manchester United under Ruben Amorim.

However, TBR Football recently revealed that the Red Devils’ ability to spend in the winter window depends on sales. Victor Lindelof is one player Manchester United could sell in January.

Newcastle, Everton and West Ham want to sign Victor Lindelof from Manchester United

Manchester United signed Lindelof from Benfica for £31 million in the summer of 2017 (BBC).

The Swede has played 267 games for the Red Devils over the years and has produced some impressive performances.

However, Lindelof has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. He has played just 294 minutes of football in all competitions this season and is expected to be moved on.

The 30-year-old will be available on a free transfer in the summer, but CaughtOffside claim that both Manchester United and Lindelof himself are open to a move away in January.

The report claims that Premier League trio Newcastle United, West Ham and Everton all want to keep Lindelof in England, while Italian sides AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina are all keeping an eye on his situation as well.

Manchester United would like a fee in the region of £5.8 million and £6.6 million for Lindelof in January. It remains to be seen whether clubs would be prepared to pay that fee when they can sign him for nothing six months later.

Reports claimed in the summer that Everton boss Sean Dyche is an admirer of Lindelof, but no move materialised then.

Should Newcastle and Everton sign Lindelof?

Newcastle United and Everton would’ve both wanted to have a better start to the new season.

The Magpies were aiming to return to one of the European places after missing out last term. But, six wins from their first 16 games has pushed them down to 12th.

Everton have had their problems too this season, but there is an upturn in form now. They look much better than they did earlier in the campaign, which is a good sign.

Both clubs should consider new signings in January, but neither should make a move for Lindelof, who is 30 now and clearly past his best.

The Swede, also had two muscular injuries in the 2023/24 season. That kept him out of 22 games for club and country.

We think both Everton and Newcastle should be looking at someone a lot younger than Lindelof in 2025.
