The last week has been a rather mixed one for Lamine Yamal. On Sunday, in the match against Leganes, the FC Barcelona winger suffered another injury in his ankle which is expected to keep him out of action for the next 3-4 weeks.
However, ahead of this game, he got his first notable individual award as he was given the Golden Boy award for his incredible last year. Later, on Monday, he was officially presented with this award at a gala in Turin, Italy, where Yamal made a virtual appearance and gave a speech.
Following this recognition, the young winger received congratulatory messages from around the world, including from Lionel Messi.
According to Mundo Deportivo, another notable individual who sent him such a message was the coach who gave him the opportunity to debut with the Barcelona first team at the age of 15, i.e., Xavi Hernández.
Tuttosport, the newspaper that organizes the presentation of this award, requested Xavi to record a video for this purpose. In this video, the former Barcelona midfielder and coach can be seen saying:
“Lamine, huge congratulations, well deserved. I’m very happy for you. Keep pushing forward—all the best, my friend. Sending you a big hug!”
This video was also played at the gala in Italy, even though Lamine Yamal, and the rest of the Barcelona delegation, could not attend this event due to logistical issues.
However, what actually matters is the recognition afforded to Yamal, and Xavi Hernández will definitely be happy to see his protégé proving his talents on the biggest stage at such a young age.
Hopefully, Yamal will heed Xavi’s advice, and continue pushing forward to become an even better player and become a legend as big as Xavi and Messi in the future. But for now, he will have to focus entirely on recovering from his injury and getting back in the best shape possible.
