Former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, who played a pivotal role in Lamine Yamal’s debut for the first team at just 15 years old, recently congratulated the young winger for winning the prestigious Golden Boy award.
This award is given to the best player under the age of 21 in European leagues. As part of the celebration, Xavi sent a heartfelt message to Yamal, expressing his pride and admiration for the young star’s achievements.
What did Xavi say?
In a video recorded for Tuttosport, the Italian newspaper responsible for presenting the award, Xavi extended his congratulations to Yamal, praising his talent and hard work.
Xavi expressed his happiness for Yamal’s success, encouraging him to continue striving for greatness. He reminded Yamal to never give up and wished him all the best in his career.

“Lamine, many congratulations, more than deserved, very happy for you, don’t give up, all the best, friend. A big hug,” he said as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
The video message was shown during the Golden Boy Gala, which took place on Monday at the National Automobile Museum in Turin.
Why was Yamal absent?
Due to injury, Yamal was unable to attend the gala to collect the award in person. Instead, Massimo Franchi, the founder of the Golden Boy award, presented the trophy to him before Barcelona’s match against Leganes on Sunday.
Unfortunately, Yamal’s absence from the event was compounded by news of his injury. Barcelona confirmed on Monday that Yamal would be sidelined for the next three to four weeks due to a grade 1 injury to the anterior intertibio-fibular ligament in his right ankle.
In addition to Xavi’s message, Yamal recently expressed his gratitude for the trust Xavi showed in him by giving him the opportunity to play for Barcelona’s senior team at such a young age.
The winger has shown immense potential, and his rapid rise through the ranks is a testament to his talent and determination.
