Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided an update on Marcus Rashford’s future ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.
The England international was recently left out of the matchday squad to face Manchester City in the Premier League. Amorim said that the decision was purely a tactical one.
Rashford has since revealed his desire to pursue a new challenge away from the Red Devils. When pressed on this, the manager provided a positive twist to those comments.
The Portuguese said that Rashford ‘is right’ and the club currently have a ‘new challenge’, having made a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, he told reporters:
“He is right. We have here a new challenge, the biggest in football, we are in a difficult situation. I hope all my players are ready.
“We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple and we will try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past.
“This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level… I just want to help Marcus.”
Rashford had a brilliant 2022/23 campaign with 30 goals in all competitions, but he has since struggled to find the same consistency with his performances.
The 27-year-old netted just eight goals from 43 outings last term. He has likewise failed to impress this season with seven goals from 24 appearances.
The forward has been short in form and confidence in recent months, but his exclusion from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby was still a surprise.
It remains to be seen whether he will be reinstated for the upcoming trip to north London.
Rashford’s comments hinted that he would prefer to leave at the earliest. If he does not make the team against Spurs, it could increase speculation over a winter exit.
