Gary Neville insists Marcus Rashford has FAILED to match Manchester United's new ‘non-negotiables’ under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils forward faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after he was then dropped for the Manchester derby. Rashford has since admitted that he would be open to a fresh start away from his boyhood club - after Neville tore into the 27-year-old after his omission against Manchester City.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former United star said: “I don’t know about their long-term future but what’s really clear is he’s [Amorim] mentioned engaging with team-mates. He’s mentioned standards. So, he’s given us clues as to what’s happened over the last few days that they’ve been moping. Not doing their bit around the training ground, engaging with their teammates properly, standards in training.

“And he’s gone ‘no, I'm not having it, I’m not accepting it.’ And good on him because for far too long we’ve seen players mope around that pitch and still continue to get a game. ‘Oh he’s on the bench’ No. It’s got to be non-negotiable. If you don’t give your all in your job, you’re gone.”

And while it looks as though Rashford is destined for the Old Trafford exit door, Neville still had some valuable advice for the forward in the meantime. There is still two weeks until the January transfer window opens.

“We've been sat in this studio for years as ex-Man United players saying, 'Give your absolute all', and players haven't been running back,” he said on Sky Sports. “We've seen Rashford and Garnacho stand on that left and right wing and not chase back when full-backs have gone past them and still stay on the pitch. No more.

“I want Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to come back stronger, take the message that they've been given by training at the training ground this morning on a Sunday with no-one else there. I want them to take this in the right spirit and become the very best players for Manchester United.”

United are back in action on Thursday evening as they take on Spurs in the Carabao Cup. Boss Amorim has already hinted that Rashford could potentially return to the squad.
