Craig Hope reveals the one change he’s ‘hearing’ Eddie Howe will make to his Newcastle side vs…

A spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals is up for grabs when Newcastle United face Brentford on Wednesday evening.

Just 11 days after losing 4-2 to Brentford in the Premier League, Newcastle United will meet the Bees again in a different competition.

The primary goal since the PIF takeover has been to win a trophy, and the closest Newcastle have come to achieving that goal is when they reached the Carabao Cup final in 2023.

Returning to Wembley will be Newcastle’s priority, so Howe is predicted to start his strongest XI on Wednesday evening.

However, journalist Craig Hope has heard a “whisper” that Eddie Howe could make one key change to his starting lineup.

Kieran Trippier set to return for Newcastle vs Brentford

Newcastle’s poor defensive record could be fixed by Kieran Trippier returning to the side – and it seems Howe is set to recall him on Wednesday.

Kieran Trippier came on as a late substitute in the defeat to Brentford earlier this month and made a 25-minute cameo in the victory over Leicester.

According to Hope, Trippier could return to the starting lineup on Wednesday.

Via his YouTube channel, Hope said: “Howe made the point that this isn’t time for rotation. I think he will go unchanged, the only whisper I’m hearing is that Kieran Trippier could come in at right back.

“You could argue, even, that might strengthen the XI.

“So I don’t think there will be any rotation unless it is forced upon him. So I expect to see Joelinton, Tonali and Bruno in that midfield three.”

Kieran Trippier’s future at Newcastle United

At 34 years old, Trippier is one of the most experienced players in Newcastle’s dressing room and his leadership is priceless.

However, Trippier could leave Newcastle in 2025 after requesting to leave in the summer before the window slammed shut.

Due to Profit and Sustainability Rules, Newcastle must sell to buy in January and Trippier is one of several stars who could be headed for the exit to raise funds.

Trippier was wanted by Turkish clubs over the summer and a move abroad is still on the cards for the veteran defender.

Signing off his spell at Newcastle with a trophy would be a fitting end, and the Magpies have a golden opportunity to reach the final four of a cup on Wednesday evening.
