Leicester City must now beat Nottingham Forest to 57-goal ace Ruud van Nistelrooy knows well -…

Leicester City should be looking to beat old rivals Nottingham Forest to one player in January.

The East Midlands derby has been ongoing since 1901 when Nottingham Forest beat Leicester City 5-1 in the FA Cup.

After the hammering they received all those years ago, the Foxes were forced to wait until 1912 before picking up their first-ever victory against their local rivals.

The derby has been a lot more even since then, with Leicester winning 41 games, Forest 42, and the remaining 27 matches ending in draws.

In 2024/25, however, there is a major gulf in quality between the two teams, which was on full display on October 25th.

Leicester lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men currently fourth in the Premier League table and 14 points clear of their 17th-place rivals.

While there is already basically no chance of the Foxes finishing above Forest this term, they can still rival The Reds on the transfer front.

Newcastle United are also credited with an interest in the winger but Leicester should be looking to win the transfer race for the exciting forward.

Bakayoko began his youth career in Belgium before moving to PSV Eindhoven in January 2020.

He has now played 181 games across several levels for the Dutch outfit, scoring 57 goals and providing 40 assists.

The 21-year-old already has five goals and one assist in 14 Eredivisie matches this term and would add some much-needed pace and flair to Leicester’s flanks following an injury to Abdul Fatawau.

What has Ruud van Nistelrooy said about Johan Bakayoko

Before becoming Leicester boss, Ruud van Nistelrooy spent the 2022/23 season as manager of PSV’s senior side.

The Dutchman won two domestic cups in that time and worked closely with Bakayoko, who scored 14 and assisted 14 in 48 matches across all competitions.

After working with the talented winger for a year, Van Nistelrooy was full of praise for him, as per GOAL.

He said: “You can see that he has power and also a good shot. He plays such controlled football that you forget that he is only 18.

“If he continues to invest so much in what he does, he is a boy who is on the right track to join the first team at the end of the season.”
