'He's available': Journalist name drops Everton in the race to sign £100m striker on loan in…

Everton could be in the market to make a move for another striker in the January transfer window.

Goals have been a major issue for Sean Dyche this season with only Southampton (11) having scored fewer goals than Everton (14) this term.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form has been criticised so far with the former England striker having only returned two goals in his 15 league appearances.

Having now kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League, it is becoming apparent where Everton’s major issues lie.

There has been some positive news of late with Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti returning from their respective injury issues.

Everton missed out on signing Marcus Thuram in 2023 who is now worth big-money, but they could be set to add another promising striker to their ranks.

Everton in race to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson on loan

Evan Ferguson is wanting to move from Brighton & Hove Albion in search of more regular football for the remainder of the campaign.

The young Ireland international has struggled to establish himself since the appointment of Fabian Hurzeler on the south coast.

According to journalist Dean Jones, Everton are one of the sides who could be in the running to land the 20-year-old next month.

“I think he’s actually perfect for West Ham, and I actually think they might try and do it. He is available on loan from Brighton in the second half of the season,” Jones said on the Ranks FC podcast.

“West Ham have a limited budget for the second half of the season. And at the moment, Evan Ferguson, when you’re looking at links, it’s looking like Leicester or Everton or Southampton; go to West Ham.”

Clearly, Everton may not be the only ones in the picture to potentially land Ferguson who’s been valued at £100m.

However, Beto could leave Everton for a Serie A return next month which could potentially put a strain on Dyche’s options – given the injury history of his current strikers.

Everton would need Evan Ferguson option to buy

The main aim now for Everton is just to retain their Premier League status ahead of their stadium move in the summer.

New ownership is on its way with The Friedkin Group set to takeover Everton this week right ahead of the January window.

However, bringing in Ferguson on a straight loan may not make a huge deal of sense for the Toffees given he is not exactly in prolific scoring form.

A straight loan would essentially provide Brighton with a favour which has no long-term guarantee for Everton with Ferguson’s lack of impact offering a mild risk.

But if Everton could secure themselves an option to buy Ferguson then this could make for a really interesting potential loan deal.
