Liverpool star Harvey Elliott declares he is “hungrier than ever” amid potential return to the starting lineup against Southampton. The English attacker recently returned from a foot injury that he suffered during the early stages of the current season.
Elliott has plenty to prove to the new head coach after enjoying a lot of senior-level experience under Jurgen Klopp. The former legendary manager helped the 21-year-old establish himself as an essential attacking midfielder at the club.
The Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Southampton could be Elliott’s first competitive start under head coach Arne Slot. Since returning from his injury in the past few games, Elliott made cameo appearances against Manchester City, Girona, and Fulham.

Since his return from a foot injury, Liverpool star Harvey Elliott could potentially make his first competitive start under Arne Slot.
The 21-year-old played a pivotal role under Klopp last season when Liverpool challenged for every trophy until the late collapse. Elliott made 53 appearances, contributing with four goals and 11 assists in all competitions for the Reds last season.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Elliott declared he is “hungrier than ever” and ready to contribute to Liverpool against Southampton under Slot. He said:
“I feel fit, I feel 100 per cent, it’s just taking a bit of time – as it does after every injury. I wasn’t really quite there as much as I thought in my head that I was and the coaching staff and the manager could see that, and I think it was a mature decision to keep me part of it but not throw me in as quick as possible and I feel like it’s helped me now. It’s built me up and I am hungrier than ever to get back out on the pitch and to help my team, to help the club, and I feel like now I am in a position where I feel 100 per cent again and now I’m just raring to go.”
Liverpool have a strong midfield with two options in each position and many of the players are versatile. Elliott can challenge and compete for the starting position with both Dominik Szoboszlai and legendary forward Mohamed Salah.
The 21-year-old’’s return is a massive creative boost for Slot as he fits the profile that the Dutchman desires. Apart from Elliott’s contributions in the final third, the 21-year-old is very hard-working and a selfless team player.
Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League while taking every domestic competition seriously. They need players like Elliott to maintain their fitness, conviction, and performance consistency at the highest level in order to win trophies.

While Slot’s tactical style is very distinct from Klopp’s, the approach could benefit Elliott the same way it has benefitted other players. The 21-year-old needs to make the most of the opportunity if he starts against Southampton in the midweek.
