AC Milan are said to be in pole position for the signature of Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei in the January transfer window. This is as per a report from fichajes.net, which claims that the Blues are looking to send the Italian out on loan for further development.
The 21-year-old central midfielder has found it hard to get regular minutes under Enzo Maresca this season amid increased competition in his position. Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer, and Moises Caicedo are most likely to comprise the midfield trio this year.
Such has been the case so far as well, which has seen the youngster make just five appearances across competitions. He's featured in four Europa Conference League games while playing once in the Carabao Cup.
Therefore, it only seems reasonable that a loan move to a top side like Milan would be beneficial for Casadei. Moreover, the report suggests that the Serie A giants are more than happy to onboard the player on a short-term basis.
Milan certainly look like they need more going for them this campaign, and some freshness in the midfield department could help. They're currently sitting eighth in the Italian top-flight standings, 14 points behind leaders Atalanta, who have played a game more.
To date, Casadei has made 16 senior appearances for Chelsea but has yet to record a goal contribution.

Thierry Henry
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is unsure whether Chelsea can fight for the Premier League title this season. The Blues are second and only two points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played a game less.
However, the west Londoners have failed to defeat any of the top five teams (Arsenal, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester City). Pointing this out, Henry told Sky Sports (via Metro):
"We’ve seen Leicester do it, we’ve seen teams that no one expected to do it reach it. I’m just thinking one thing they still didn’t do with this generation is to beat a team that’s in and around them.
"They still didn’t beat a big team. Yeah they came back against Tottenham but show me you can beat Liverpool, show me you City, show me you can beat Arsenal. Then you will be like, hang on a minute, wait! There is a step there."
Next up in the Premier League for Chelsea is a match at Goodison Park against Everton on Sunday (December 22). The Toffees played out a 0-0 draw against Arsenal in their previous match (December 14).
