Report: Chris Wood tells Nottingham Forest there is a crucial detail they must agree to in his new contract

Nottingham Forest and Chris Wood remain locked in talks over a new contract with the striker in the final stages of his current deal.

Nottingham Forest are keen to get the striker tied down to a new deal to avoid losing him for free. The 33-year-old also remains a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team and would be very tricky to replace.

Wood and the Premier League club are continuing to talk and the former Newcastle United man has made them aware of one key detail he wants added to any new contract.

Chris Wood tells Nottingham Forest he wants a two-year contract

Chris Wood is demanding a two-year contract from Nottingham Forest, according to Tom Collomosse. However, the East Midlands club’s current offer is just a one-year deal for now. Nuno is a big fan of Wood and losing him would be a major blow to his project at the City Ground.

The New Zealand international currently earns £100,000-a-week making him one of Forest’s highest earners. £100k is a lot to be paying a player who turned 33 this month and to do so on a deal which is longer than a year.

However, a key detail to all of this is that both the player and the club are keen to reach an agreement. Forest will need to be quick as the forward can start talking to foreign clubs over a pre-agreement move in January.

Can Chris Wood fire Nottingham Forest into Europe?

Forest’s revival under Nuno this campaign has been nothing short of remarkable and it has been spearheaded by Chris Wood. The striker is on ten goals in 16 Premier League matches which makes him joint-fourth with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

Meanwhile, the team are currently sitting in the top four and are ahead of current league champions, Manchester City. They have won six of their last nine league matches with Brentford away in their next fixture.
