Gary Lineker's feelings on Erling Haaland-like player Leicester City want are already clear

Leicester City want to improve their squad during the 2025 winter transfer window.

The Foxes have had a rough start to the 2024/25 season, most recently being trashed by Newcastle United this past Saturday.

But Ruud van Nistelrooy provided a Leicester City transfer update earlier this month, confirming discussions over winter arrivals have already taken place.

The Midlands outfit need to strengthen in several areas of their squad and a number of stars have been linked.

Leicester are unlikely to sign Giorgi Chakvetadze from Watford despite reports the club are interested in the attacking midfielder.

Elsewhere, after disappointing since his big-money move to Chelsea in the summer, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could return in January.

Further forward, TEAMtalk reported this week that the Midlands side are considering a move for striker, Evan Ferguson.

The Irishman joined Brighton and Hove Albion as a youngster before making his Premier League debut in February 2022.

Ferguson has now notched 78 appearances for Brighton’s senior side in all competitions, scoring 17 and assisting five.

The 20-year-old had a particularly prolific start to the 2023/24 campaign, which included him etching his name into the Premier League history books.

Brighton beat Newcastle United 3-1 on September 2nd, 2023, with Ferguson scoring a hat-trick.

He became the sixth-youngster player to score a hat-trick in the competition and received high praise from Gary Lineker after doing so.

Speaking on Match of the Day at the time, Lineker said: “I do see a hint of Haaland about him. His stature and his movement and stuff like that and his youth as well.”

While Arsenal legend Ian Wright added: “He’s just getting better.”

Leicester City face stumbling block in Evan Ferguson pursuit

The aforementioned report from TEAMtalk states that Ferguson is available for loan in the upcoming transfer window.

Leicester are expected to face competition from West Ham United for his signature but must overcome another stumbling block before they can land the hitman.

The Foxes already have two players on loan from Premier League clubs this season – Facundo Buonanotte and Odsonne Edouard.

Leicester would be pretty silly to cut Buonanotte’s deal short given how well he has played this season so far.

But Crystal Palace are open to selling Edouard, meaning he could be sent back to Selhurst Park in January in order to make room for Ferguson.
