Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has been under massive pressure given the North Londoners underwhelming start to the season, and there have been reports of the Lilywhites considering replacing the Australian with Brentford manager Thomas Frank following the success he has enjoyed with the Bees.
While the former Celtic manager isn’t thought to be under immediate pressure via. David Ornstein via NBC Sports Soccer, however, Ange will need to do something ‘remarkable‘ to keep his job at N17, given how the North Londoners are just above the second half of the table (10th precisely) and far away from their objectives of Champions League qualification.
Spurs did win their last game in the English tier with a 5-0 margin in what was a remarkable performance, and that eases a bit of pressure; the season is long, and another bad patch of form could spell the end to his tenure at White Hart Lane.
King backs Frank to replace Ange
'Frustrating' financial constraints set to hamper Tottenham pursuit of £70 million Premier League star.
Pressure remains on Ange Postecoglou to turn things around quickly at N17
And amid links to Frank, former Spurs scout Bryan King has backed the Danish coach to succeed at Tottenham if the Lilywhites were to call it quits with Ange. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“I know Thomas, I first met him many years ago when he was in charge of the Denmark Under-19s. He has done a marvellous job at Brentford. He is a good coach, he knows what he wants to do and he knows how he wants to play. I would imagine that if he came to Tottenham, there would be a lot of changes, both in terms of staff and players.
“Frank has brought in players for reasonably small sums of money. Brentford recruit very well. I don’t know Postecoglou but I know Frank, and he has done very well with Brentford on a small budget.”
While the high-pressing and possession-based football that Postecoglou deployed at White Hart Lane brought some optimism initially, the inconsistencies with many facets of play have raised doubts about his ability to deliver long-term success, and as compared to the Australian, Frank’s pragmatic approach, where his ability to not only identify undervalued talent but also his emphasis on structured and disciplined football, can bring some stability at N17.
