What Chelsea said to Enzo Maresca to convince him to sign Joao Felix last summer – journalist

Chelsea made a plethora of intelligent investments last summer as they looked to finetune their squad for the incoming new manager.

Enzo Maresca has got off to an incredible start to life at Stamford Bridge. The Blues currently sit second in the Premier League and top of the group in the Conference League.

A number of their summer signings have made an impact on the squad already. The cut-price deal for Jadon Sancho has looked a shroud piece of business, and Pedro Neto has established himself as a crucial member of the squad.

Another player who has seen his Premier League minutes increase as of late is Joao Felix, currently in his second spell at Chelsea.

Maresca has described Felix as ‘different from the rest’ as he begins to make his mark, however it has been stated that he was not the biggest advocate for his addition.

Chelsea insisted Enzo Maresca could improve Joao Felix

Previous reports have stated that Maresca would have preferred a defender to join instead of Felix, however he is beginning to prove his worth.

Guillem Balague has stated that the club had to convince the manager that he could really improve the Portugal international.

He said: “The only player that he was perhaps not too convinced about, Joao Felix, the club said ‘please take him, we know you’re going to make him better’. I think you’re starting to see glimpses of what he can do.

Joao Felix injury update

Felix was nowhere to be seen in the last two Chelsea squads, with it being reported that he had suffered a minor injury.

Maresca said after the game that he was hopeful the attacker would be back in his side for the upcoming game against Everton.

He will definitely be welcoming back Neto after his suspension, and Chelsea are hopeful Romeo Lavia will also be back for the trip to Goodison Park.
