Sky Sports commentator Don Goodman has poured cold water on an Evan Ferguson loan move to Celtic in January for the remainder of the season.
Ferguson, who has started just two Premier League games this season, has fallen out of favour under head coach Fabian Hürzeler.
With Ferguson said to be available for a loan move in January, Goodman revealed why he believes a move to Celtic wouldn’t be the right decision to progress the young Irish striker’s career.
Goodman said: (Coin Poker), “If I look at the quality of the Scottish Premiership, I don’t think a transfer to the SPFL would be right for Evan Ferguson. However, he’s an Irish lad who has previously admitted Celtic are his favourite Scottish team. That could be a little carrot which makes him consider a move to Parkhead.
“European football would also be an attraction for Evan Ferguson. But would it be enough for him after being linked with some of the best clubs in the world previously?
“While the European nights are brilliant, the rest of it, aside from Rangers and maybe Aberdeen, is easy. I say that with the utmost respect and as someone who played in the Scottish Premiership. I’m not criticising it, those are just levels when compared to the Premier League.
“It would be huge if Celtic could somehow persuade him to sign for them and he would score bundles of goals. I’m just not sure it would be a wonderful career move.”
With Ferguson’s career at Brighton stalling for the time being, a loan move to Celtic appears to be exactly what the striker needs.
The Hoops are desperate for a third-choice striker to further push Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah.
With Idah working alongside Ferguson for the Irish national team, the two will likely be in regular contact.
Idah, who failed to make a significant impact at Norwich City last season after falling out of favour, was in a similar position this time last year.
After joining Celtic on loan in January, he thrived towards the end of the season, leading to a permanent move to the Hoops in the summer.

Although Brighton will likely want to keep hold of Ferguson in the long term, he could thrive on loan at Celtic, with the opportunity to play in the Champions League, something he will undoubtedly have dreamed of.
Celtic, however, will face tough competition to sign Ferguson on loan.
However, with the Irishman being a lifelong Hoops supporter and having previously been on trial at Lennoxtown before joining Bohemians in January 2021, a move to Celtic could be exactly what he needs at this stage of his career.
