The takeover of Everton by The Friedkin Group is expected to be announced on Thursday

The takeover of Everton by The Friedkin Group (TFG) is almost complete. The ECHO understands an official announcement that the deal has been done is likely to be made tomorrow (Thursday, December 19).

TFG initially made a bid to buy the Blues from owner Farhad Moshiri in June. But one month later they ended exclusivity talks due to concerns over the financial exposure the club had to stricken investment firm 777 Partners.

But those concerns were eased and in September the group, which also own Italian giants Roma and is led by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, returned to the table and agreed to purchase Moshiri's 94 per cent stake in Everton.

The process is not thought to have encountered any serious issues and we reported on Monday that it would be concluded in the coming days.

That day now appears to be tomorrow with an official announcement expected from the Blues.

Completion of the deal would mark the end of Moshiri’s turbulent eight years at Everton, who will move into a new 52,888-capacity stadium on the Liverpool waterfront at the end of the season.

The Blues are currently 16th in the Premier League table, three points above the relegation places. On Sunday, they welcome second-placed Chelsea to Goodison Park.

Representatives from TFG could attend the match after the takeover is announced.
