Liverpool travelled down to the English south coast to face Premier League cellar dwellers Southampton, with the Reds in full control at half-time.
Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott were both on the scoresheet as Liverpool went into the break with a healthy 2-0 lead, with a managerless Southampton failing to do much to worry the visitors despite a highly rotated XI.

Trent Alexander-Arnold lauded after Darwin Nunez assist
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra coverage of the match, the pundit was full of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who assisted Nunez after some excellent play from the England international before a deflected pass found its way to the Liverpool no. 9.
Benali said: “It’s a wonderful piece of football from Trent Alexander-Arnold. He had two players around him, but gets past both of them and drives forward before clipping the ball over to Darwin Nunez. Nunez does well to keep his composure and he just tucks it home. There was only one outcomes once Alex McCarthy slipped.”
