Legendary Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti makes history in FIFA Intercontinental Cup success

Carlo Ancelotti has become the most successful manager in Real Madrid's history courtesy of the team's 3-0 victory over Mexican outfit Pachuca in the final of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup on Wednesday.

Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior were on the scoresheet for the European champions in Qatar, as Los Blancos secured their second trophy of the season following their UEFA Super Cup success back in August.

Ancelotti set history on Wednesday, with the Italian becoming the most decorated Los Blancos head coach of all time on 15 trophies.

The Italian has won three Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, two Copa del Rey trophies, three UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups and the Intercontinental Cup across two separate spells.

Ancelotti had been level on 14 trophies with Italian Miguel Munoz following the UEFA Super Cup success, but he has now moved out on his own and will be hoping to add to that number before the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Ancelotti has now won 15 trophies at Real Madrid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez spoke to RMTV shortly after the full-time whistle and revealed his delight at the success.

"I am very pleased, it is a world champion title, and it is the ninth time we have won it. It is a beautiful title, and we are very excited to win it," he said.

"It is difficult to match, but we will fight to keep winning titles. We have started this season with two titles, and we will see how many more we can win, including La Liga, the Champions League, and perhaps others.

"Having a good team is the most important thing. It is what I have tried to do throughout all these years, and the truth is we have won many titles and we have the ambition to continue winning them.

"This is the result of many years of work, from many people, and the entire world is full of Madridistas. It is a satisfaction and a responsibility, and I will continue working to bring them these joys."

Ancelotti hails Real Madrid "attitude" against Pachuca

Ancelotti also addressed his team's performance in Wednesday's final and hailed the "big achievement".

"Today we started a bit so-so, and then we took control. We finished well. We had more quality, but we needed attitude. After that, we got into the match. In the end, yes, I liked the attitude," said the manager

"Offensively, we did well. There's a lot of quality. Kylian had a good match, Rodrygo scored the second. We're very happy. Winning a match like this in the middle of the season is a big achievement."

Real Madrid's attention will quickly switch back to La Liga, with Sevilla visiting Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon, and the Spanish champions will then not be back in action until January 3 away to Valencia.
